Brief History
The Ramakrishna Institute of Culture Kamptee happened to have been started during January 1948 with the celebration of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti – Tithi Pooja And Public function. This was followed by Ramakrishna Jayanti and festival of all religions like Ramnavmi, Buddha Jayanti, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Christmas etc. School and college students as also employed youth got spontaneously associated with these celebration as volunteers. Shri Birendranath Sen, a disciple of Shrimad Swami Abhedanandji Maharaj, an apostle of Shri Ramakrishna, who had organised these celebrations also started guiding these children and the youth in their studies and habits. By 1949, it took the shape of Students’ Home. Other activities like homeopathic dispensary, discources, competitions, tailoring and home science classes for ladies were gradually added. The Ashram bloomed unannounced and unplanned. Philanthropists and social workers pressed Babuji to have the efforts properly organised with Constitution, Memorendum of Association, Registration and such other formalities to ensure stability and continuity of efforts. So the Institute came to be Registered under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 vide No. 70 of 1954-1955 Dated 19-11-1954 as ´´The Ramakrishna Institute of Culture´´. Subsequently, the Institute was registered under Bombay Public Trust Act in 1962 vide No. F-403 [N] dated:-18-08-1962. Later on, Shrimad Swami Atmasthanandaji Maharaj, [Ex. President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, Howrah] guided the Institute, to have the present title, ´´Shri Ramakrishna Samskriti Peeth´´. From the inception, the Institute had blessings and guidance from Shrimad Swami Bhaskareshwaranandaji Maharaj [founder and first president of Ramakrishna Math, Dhantoli, Nagpur] and Shrimad Swami Vyomrupanandji Maharaj [Ex. President Ramakrishna Math, Nagpur]. Through them, Several trustees and monks of the Math-Mission visited the institute. Shrimad Swami Brahmasthanandaji Maharaj [Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math Dhantoli Nagpur at present] continues this tradition. On our request, the Head Quarters of the Mission guided us to have the Advisory Committee where in President and one Vice President of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhava Prachar Praishad, Maharashtra are respectively the Chairman and the Vice-Chairman. At present Shrimad Swami Vishnupadanandaji Maharaj [Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Aurangabad], Shrimad Swami Satyadevanandaji Maharaj [Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math & Mission, Mumbai] and Shrimad Swami Shrikantanandaji Maharaj [Adhyaksha, Ramakrishna Math, Pune] are respectively the Chairman and Vice Chairmans of our Advisory committee.
Institute had a tradition and provision of inmates. Previous Shri Birendranath Sen, Fulkuwar Bai Pathak, Dr. B.T. Adwani, Sushri Ushatai Kundle were the inmates respectively. Presently, Ku. Durga Bhardwaj has continued this tradition w.e.f. 01-12-2020.
